A Podiatrist is a medical specialist focused on the health of the feet, ankles, and lower legs. Formerly known as Chiropodists, modern Podiatrists manage everything from routine skin care to surgical reconstructions.
What does our Podiatrist do?
- Diagnosis & Assessment: Perform physical exams and assess gait analysis to identify the root cause of pain.
- General Foot Care: Treating common issues such as ingrown toenails, fungal infections, corns, calluses, and verrucae.
- Chronic Disease Management: Providing critical care for patients with diabetes, arthritis, or cardiovascular disease to prevent complications like ulcers or amputations.
- Surgical Procedures: Performing minor surgeries, such as nail removals.
- Biomechanical Correction: Prescribing custom orthotics (insoles) and footwear to correct walking patterns and relieve joint pressure.
Specialised Areas of Practice
- Sports Medicine: Treating athletes for sprains, stress fractures, and tendonitis e.g. Achilles tendonitis).
- Paediatrics: Addressing developmental issues in children, such as flat feet, "toe-walking," or in toeing.
- Wound Care: Managing slow-healing ulcers and infections, particularly in high-risk patients.
