What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a type of complementary therapy that uses deep relaxation, which is an altered state of consciousness. Hypnotherapy is widely promoted as a treatment for various long-term conditions and for breaking certain habits.

How does Hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy works with the power of your unconscious mind and can create positive benefits in a relatively short space of time. The Therapist puts you in a state of deep relaxation without you ever losing control.

It is a skilled verbal communication, used during the deeply relaxed state, which helps direct your imagination in such a way as to bring about intended alterations in sensations, perceptions, feelings, thoughts and behaviour.

What Happens at the First session?

You will have had the opportunity to talk to the Therapist before your first session but it is still possible that you may feel quite apprehensive about you first session – our Therapist will understand this and will put you at ease.

At the first session they will tell you all about the practical information you need to know and of course you will be able to tell them and discuss your own goals for attending the therapy.

The Hypnotherapist will ask you questions about previous medical history, general health and lifestyle.

Together our Hypnotherapist and you will decide on the changes or goals that you desire.

It is useful to know that achieving this state of deep relaxation becomes easier as you relax with the Therapist and as your sessions progress.

What can Hypnotherapy help me with?

Hypnotherapy can be applied to a wide range of medical and psychological problems. Areas of application include anxiety and stress conditions, weight control, addictive behaviours (including smoking, alcohol and substance misuse) and confidence issues. Hypnotherapy is also used to enhance performance in areas such as sport and public speaking.

How will I feel after my session?

It is normal to feel tired initially but many people experience a burst of energy quite soon after the session ends.

After a few sessions you may find that you look forward to and enjoy the state of deep relaxation.
