I am Lisa Wright, I am a Sports Massage Therapist and Personal Fitness Trainer.
I work with and treat many types of people with lots of different goals. If you are already exercising regularly then you may be looking for some Sports Massage for maintenance to keep performing at your peak. Regular massage helps to stave off injuries and can reduce the chance of any old injuries recurring.
If you have started trying to get fit and have suffered an injury as a result of going from no exercise to lots of exercise then perhaps you have a weakness you have just become aware of and you need to find out why it has occurred and get it treated. I can help you get back to exercising through Sports Massage, advise you on stretches and exercises to get you back on track.
If you are pre or postnatal and want to remain fit and healthy, I can help you with that too as I have specialised in this type of fitness; such an important area so you can be strong for the birth and regain your muscle control and shape after the birth.
Sports Massage at this time can be so beneficial at a time when you tend to forget yourself and put all your concentration into the little person.
I can also help you with nutrition for sports and weight loss. Exercise and eating healthily can go hand in hand with my help and encouragement.
I like to include boxing and suspension training in my routines which makes it fun and productive and no matter what your starting point is we can work together to achieve a plan that you can stick to and enjoy.
I look forward to speaking to you soon to plan your fitness goals and help you stay strong, supple and injury free.
Why did you become a Sports Therapist?
I am an active person and run extensively and so I have endured many injuries along the way. This then sparked my interest in how the body actually functions and works together. This gave me the desire to operate on maintenance and avoidance while assisting post injury and recuperation.
What makes your job worthwhile?
I get enormous satisfaction post massage when a client visibly is looser and there is a clear reduction in their pain. My 15 years of experience in the fitness industry gives me a great understanding of injury and my sports massage qualification enhances my ability in sourcing and easing the pain caused by the injury.
What is unique about how you work?
My background in personal fitness training, marathons and triathlons, gives me extensive first-hand experience of injuries and how they occur. I have great enthusiasm for understanding, how the body functions structurally, and how it fails. Simple postural assessments can pick up a multitude of issues, and with a course of deep tissue massage can be corrected, often the painful source is NOT the culprit and that’s what I am good at pinpointing.
Who has influenced you most in your career as a Sports Therapist?
Jade Revell, Sports Therapy UK, my course tutor and inspirational woman. She made the course fun (fundamental in learning). She is a font of knowledge and is always approachable with academic concerns. A fabulous balance for a tutor and so I learnt more during the period training with Sports Therapy UK than with any other institution.
What’s the piece of advice you give to your patients/clients most often?
Step away from the cake… and ice, rest, elevate and anti-inflammatories!
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
Ooooooh…. running….. oh and stand up paddle boarding, and the cereal box game….(I always win!)
